Sit down with Chris Berry

Tell our readers a little about yourself. Where do you live? How have you coped over the past 12 months?

After 20-plus years in New York, my family and I moved to Washington DC last year to be closer to family. It’s nice to hear birds chirping outside the window as opposed to car horns honking. We were definitely starting to distort the age curve in Brooklyn, so it was a good time to move out! The past 12 months has been hard to describe for us as I’m sure it has been for anyone reading this. Thankfully everyone is safe, and it looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine rollout here in the US. I think COVID has reinforced the idea that we as individuals, families, or companies need to be able to adapt to rapidly changing landscapes.

You have collaborated with Zimtu Capital in the past. Tell our readers a little about that. You were on one the European bus trips, right?

I have had the pleasure of joining the Zimtu bus tour throughout Europe on a couple of occasions as a speaker and emcee. It has been a great experience to meet resource and technology investors in other parts of the world to challenge my own assumptions and hopefully challenge theirs as well.

In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge facing REE juniors hoping to develop North-American centric supply chains?

It may take more than a few sentences to answer that, but clearly the lack of a non-Chinese REE supply chain is an impediment that must be addressed. A full non-Chinese supply chain requires the raw material in the form of new mines, separation and purification capacity as well as metal and magnet-making capacity and it must all match the size of the market as it grows. This is a worthy goal to strive for and it will not be accomplished overnight. Both the public and private sectors need to invest in R&D as a way to compete with a China-dominated REE supply chain.

Zimtu Capital will feature Chris Berry for our next Zoom with Zimtu investor presentation next Wednesday April 21st, starting at 10:00 AM PDT / 1:00 PM EDT / 7:00 PM CEST.
